THEMED VISITS
DISCOVERING A FORTRESS: JOSSELIN CASTLE IN THE MIDDLE AGES
This school’s course is intended for CM1 and CM2 pupils aged 9-12, to give them an exciting and realistic understanding of life in the Middle Ages.
Children can explore the site, marking the existing and missing towers on the map provided. The guide will then work with them to understand and decipher the symbols on the Renaissance facade.
After that, they will visit the interior, exploring historical topics, such as coats of arms and daily life in the Middle Ages. In addition, they will have special access to a room where they will have the opportunity to examine ancient weaponry and armour.
THE RENAISSANCE: A TIME OF INNOVATION
This course is aimed at secondary pupils and we provide a course guide as a basis for study. The interior facade of the Castle – the Ducal residence – was created around 1500 and is superbly preserved. The granite motifs enable students to understand the Italian influence on the architecture of the Breton Renaissance. The visit continues inside where they will discover fine examples of the many innovations made during this important period.
In the context of their studies, each student will receive a course sheet mounted on a rigid support.
Our experienced guide and facilitator is accustomed to working with young people and will interact with them to complete the course (which can be adapted to individual school learning programmes).
